1.1 Product Purpose

TOPUKE1200 Storage Battery On-line Monitoring System is mainly used for DC system and UPS backup power supply of power plant, power supply bureau, energy storage power plants (wind, solar, etc.), communications room base station, finance, military, transportation etc. meanwhile, it can be used for monitoring the battery pack of electromobile. It will timely and continuously monitor the voltage of battery internal resistance, charge-discharge current, temperature, remain Ah and other information, so that provide significant reference for operation and maintenance of battery pack and ensure the reliable operation of battery pack.

Structure and Theory

2.1 System Structure 

 The system structure is generally divided into following components: acquisition module, discharge module, the central processing module, the display module, the control module, the alarm notification module and button.

The acquisition module timely collects the voltage of storage battery, current, temperature, internal resistance and other parameters; central processing module will switch, analyze and compute the collected information; the display module is mainly used for displaying the test result and presenting the parameter setting of control module to the instruments, and then display module will upload information to PC through 232serial port (485, Ethernet), which realizes long-distance monitoring; monitoring upper computer software may memory and analyze information, and then generate local alarm. Moreover, it also sends the alarm to appointed mobile phone via GSM and MODEM.

2.3 Safety

DC Discharge Method for testing internal resistance, which tests the internal resistance in accordance with the working characteristics of storage battery, is a method that bases on the working manner of storage battery. Normally, storage battery may provide continuous and constant 0.1C current for nearly 10 hours; meanwhile, it also instantly offers a 1C large current for several minutes or dozens of minutes. 


DC Discharge Method for testing internal resistance will not influence the performance and life of storage battery. The storage battery is allowed to implement short-time large current discharge, but it refuges overcharge due to the overcharge or unqualified battery charger will damage the storage battery. Sometimes, the storage battery will discharge with hundreds of ampere current; sometimes, as the power cut of the generator room base station, it’s normally to discharge for more than several hours with dozens of ampere. This will not damage storage battery but the storage battery, which is not discharged but floated, will be easily damaged.

 

TOPUKE1200 storage battery On-line Monitoring System will implement shallow discharge with 20-30 ampere current and last for 3.25 seconds; while its discharge electric quantity is less than 1/300(for battery with its capacity is 200Ah, the more capacity it has, the less electric quantity it discharges). Where the falling battery voltage is only 0.01V-1V (shall base on the capacity and performance of battery), will not cause the actions of floating machine. 

This method for testing internal resistance can be weekly implemented to predict battery aging with low frequency.
Therefore, it will not result in any damage to storage battery, but will often stimulate the battery to prolong the life of use instead. The so called influence life, it is mostly used by the manufactures of AC injection method to promote AC method. Objectively, the two methods, which are implemented in accordance with normal testing, will not reduce the life of battery and not damage the battery.

 

3.1 Product Characteristics
